Are you pursuing your passions?
I mean head down, full head of steam, going after them?
Let’s be real, most of us aren’t.
And, even if we are, we probably aren’t to that extent.
But why not?
Why is it that so few people are truly living out their best lives, and using their time for pursuing their passions, while most others aren’t?
How come most people are settling for lives well below that which they desire?
The answers to those questions are limitless, and I could ramble on for hours about them.
But, that’s not the point of this post.
The point of this post is to hopefully encourage and inspire you to use this Coronavirus crisis as your metaphorical call to wake the hell up, and start pursuing your passions.
I want to highlight 3 big lessons that I think you can pull from this experience that will allow you to start down that road of going after and creating the life you REALLY want.
If you want to learn more about that, keep reading.
Safety is a myth
The first lesson that I think this whole crisis should teach you is that “safety” is a myth.
Notice I put that word in quotes.
I did that because, just like those quotes surround the word, we spend so much of our lives trying to surround ourselves with things that bring us what we believe to be safety.
Safety becomes the filter through which we make our decisions.
Is that helpful in some ways? Absolutely.
It’s what keeps us from doing excessively stupid things that put us at greater risk of killing ourselves.
The problem is, safety is rooted in fear.
We’re trying to surround ourselves with safety because we’re fearful of the consequences or alternatives.
But, this crisis has proven that safety is not real. It’s a false sense of security that we try to give ourselves in order to, in many cases, justify not doing something.
There are a lot of people who thought they were physically, emotionally, and financially “safe” in life before all of this.
Yet, people are getting sick and dying, experiencing greater levels of fear, overwhelm, anxiety, depression, etc., and have lost their jobs and aren’t sure how they’re going to pay their bills.
As hard of a pill as it is to swallow, it’s the truth – safety, as we like to believe it, does not exist.
Which brings me to my second lesson, which piggybacks off of this one.
Life can change in an instant
There are a lot of people, right about now, who would kill to go back to how things were a few weeks or months ago (depending on where you’re located).
And that’s saying something, considering I believe most people are just going through the motions of life, feeling kinda meh about it.
That’s exactly why this lesson is so important.
Just like how safety is a myth, you gotta start to understand that life can completely change in an instant.
And because of that truth, at any moment, you could be one of those who are in a state of physical, emotional, or financial turmoil and chaos.
I don’t say that to scare you, or make you feel powerless. I’m actually saying that to free you and to give you power.
To free you from yourself, your limiting beliefs, and any lame excuses or fears you’ve been using to stop yourself from pursuing your passions.
And to give you the power to know that while you can’t control what goes on around you, you can definitely control what you do with your life.
Let the reality that life can flip upside down in an instant, taking with it all of the so-called safety you’ve worked so hard to give yourself, be an invitation to go for it.
To not back down from creating and living the life you actually want because of fear.
Not in a reckless abandon, throw caution to the wind, burn the boats kinda way. I don’t subscribe to that way of doing business.
But let it be the excuse you give yourself to start saying “why not” to pursuing your passions, rather than asking “why” and backing down yet again.
Because if you’re not pursuing your passions, then you’re setting yourself up to get blindsided by the hard times, and left out of the good.
You’re also setting yourself up for the dreaded “what ifs.”
Having to answer to yourself about why you never gave yourself permission to go after your dreams.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty miserable place to be.
But, the good news is, you don’t have to experience that.
You can start pursuing your passions, and avoid that completely.
And that brings me to my last lesson.
Action is the key
With all of the chaos and uncertainty going on in the world right now, a lot of people are feeling stuck.
They’re not sure what to think, how to feel, or what to do.
And that stuckness (<< Definitely a word! HA) has people just sitting and waiting.
Waiting for life to get back to “normal.”
The problem is, we have no clue when or if things will ever return to normal as we knew them to be.
So if you’re one of those people who is feeling stuck right now, you’re missing a golden opportunity.
I’ve been doing daily live videos on my Facebook page where I’ve been preaching about exactly that.
I’ve been talking about how this can be an opportunity to finally go after those “things” in our lives – those big goals, dreams, or aspirations that we’ve never gone after before for whatever reason.
But the key is action!
As bad as it may sound, there are going to be winners and losers on the other side of this thing.
Not based on what one gains in comparison to others, but based on the actions you take to set yourself up for success and to create a life you want.
There are people who have lost a hell of a lot during this crisis – money, jobs, possessions, or loved ones, that are taking massive action despite those losses.
And there are also people who have lost little to nothin’, who are sitting and waiting. They’re taking no action.
It doesn’t matter how much you’re affected by this crisis. What matters is how much action you’re taking right now.
That’s going to be the great separator between those who come out of this thing better off, and those who come out worse off or unchanged.
You can change your life
Here’s the reality, this situation sucks in many ways.
It sucks seeing people getting sick. It sucks worse to see the number of people dying from this damn virus.
People losing their jobs and relationships falling apart suck too.
We know that.
But, the truth is, while there are many things that suck, there’s also great opportunity in it.
I’m a firm believer in the fact that there’s a silver lining in every situation.
This one is no different.
If you can lean into and embrace the opportunity, you can set yourself up for a life of pursuing your passions.
And that’s what I want for you.
