Chances are, if you follow along with my content (which I’m extremely grateful for), you’re trying to change your life in some way.

And I love that. I love it when people commit to wanting to be their best and make changes in their lives that allow them to grow.

But, I also know how hard it can be to do that.

I’m on my own journey just like you, and never want to seem like I’m some guru. Because I’m definitely not.

I’m a dude who is walking out my own journey of constant growth so that I can continue to change and upgrade my own life.

And I just so happen to be insanely passionate about helping others do the same

I say that to help you understand that I know the struggle that comes with trying to change your life.

That’s why I want to share two quick but powerful truths with you, about you (geez, that was confusing), that’ll change everything.

I first learned these lessons a few years ago, and they were like the keys that unlocked the doors to life and freedom.

So, if you want to learn more about these truths that’ll change your life, keep reading.

Man looking through a square he made with his hands in the background behind the text, "Change your life: 2 truths about your that'll change everything"

Truth 1: You’re NOT that important

I know, I know, you may be thinking, “Well damn, Justin, way to make me feel great and empowered right out of the gate.”

But, stick with me here. I’ll stroke your feathers more in truth numero dos.

Like you probably experienced, most people read or hear that statement, and immediately take offense to it.

But let me be clear, I’m not saying that you aren’t an important person – you absolutely are!

I think you’re freakin’ awesome, and I want you to be the most awesomest (sorry, I have a 4 year old, so little kid lingo comes out sometimes) version of yourself, and to create an amazing life for yourself.

HOWEVA… speaking from experience here, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you’re not being that most awesomest version of yourself.

And, you’re probably not living your best life.

Why?

The dreaded disease of fear of other people’s opinion – DUN, DUN, DUUUUNNNNNN!

Seriously though, most people think that the fear of failure is what holds them back from going after their dreams – building that business, finding that relationship, transforming their body, etc.

But, if you really peel back the layers, at the heart of the issue is the fear of other people’s opinion.

That’s right! You’re more afraid of other people seeing you fail, than you are of actually failing.

But, here’s the truth…. YOU’RE NOT THAT IMPORTANT!

Remember how I said that I’m just a dude on my own journey of trying to change my life?

Yea, well so is everyone else.

So, while you’re sitting there afraid of being judged and are worrying about what other people think about you, which is keeping you from changing your life, chances are, one of three things is happening:

  1. They gave zero energy to judging you, and are just trying to get through their own journey.
  2. They saw you fail, but are actually there to lift you back up because they are inspired by your actions and willingness to go for it.
  3. They did judge you, which should let you know that those aren’t the kind of people you want in your life anyways.

Are any of those really worth not stepping up, owning your power, and creating an amazing life for yourself?

I sure hope not!

Because, regardless of which one happens, people have their own lives and problems to be concerned about.

If I hadn’t learned this truth, I never would’ve launched my coaching or speaking businesses.

I battled all the head talk in the process.

“What if people hate my blog posts and think I’m dumb?”

“I mean, who am I to really coach or help anyone anyways?”

“What if I try to start this thing and I fail? Everyone is going to think I’m a loser.”

But, despite those thoughts, and SOOOO many more, I reminded myself, “Justin, you’re not that important.”

I don’t know about you, but knowing that I’m not that important and being able to let go of all the B.S. in my head that I’ve created by thinking I am, is so liberating.

So, the next time you feel yourself being stuck or fearful of what others might think or say about you, just remind yourself, “I’m not that important.”

Truth 2: You’re freaking awesome

See, I told ya I’d stroke your feathers a bit.

You want to know something crazy though?

More people will struggle with reading and accepting this truth than the first one.

Why? Because we’re great at self-deprecating.

It’s common practice to tear ourselves down. I mean, we don’t want to seem like the weird or egotistical one who walks around complimenting or loving on ourselves, do we?

No way!

Wait… or do we?

My 2 cents… YOU SHOULD!

Wanna know why? Because YOU’RE FREAKING AWESOME!

Again, stick with me here.

No, you may not be the smartest, most athletically gifted, best looking, etc. person around.

But you know what you are? You’re the only damn you there is!

There is literally not another you in this world. And while you may think that’s a good thing in all your self-loathing, I completely and adamantly disagree!

I think it makes you a necessary piece in this puzzle – without you, the puzzle can’t be complete (I don’t know about you, but it REALLY pisses me off when one piece of the puzzle is missing).

Problem is, you don’t like yourself because you’ve got a case of comparisonitis.

You’re so busy looking at and comparing yourself to others and their lives, that you’re missing the golden opportunity to be your best you.

Think about it, what if you spent even half the time you do comparing yourself to others, working on yourself and your life?

How much different would you and your life be? Uhhh… I’m guessing a LOT different.

The tragic part is, the people you’re comparing yourself to didn’t get to where they are by sitting around and comparing themselves to others.

Nope, in my experience, most of those people realized what their gifts were and what makes them awesome, and they put them to great use.

And, you can do the same. You can completely change your life.

But before you can, you’ve gotta accept the fundamental truth about yourself that you are awesome!

You are uniquely equipped with certain gifts, talents, skills, knowledge, perspective, etc. that allow you to make an impact on this world like no other person can.

But, until you accept that, you won’t know what that thing is, or how to use it.

Accepting that you’re awesome doesn’t mean being an arrogant ass. It means understanding that there is only one you on this earth, and you serve a purpose.

Imagine how much you could change your life if you stepped out with that level of belief in yourself, with a heart to serve, and without comparing yourself and your life to anyone else’s….

I’ll leave you with these simple but profound words from the wise philosopher, Dr. Seuss:

“You are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”

The only thing I’d add is that we need you to be the youest version of you that you can be, because you are freaking awesome!

Final Thoughts

One of the great conundrums of life is why we overcomplicate things.

I’m not exactly sure why we do this.

But, there is one thing I am absolutely certain of. When you’re trying to change your life, reminding yourself of these two simple, but powerful truths will absolutely help you.

Be UNCOMMON!
